School History
Nagyubuyuban Integrated School:
The Yubuyob of the North

Yubuyob refers to a place where people from the place heat the iron to make farm implements like bolo, iron bar, plow and the like made of iron. With this, Barangay Nagyubuyuban was born. Barangay Nagyubuyuban, City of San Fernando, La Union is located in eastern part of San Juan, La Union. It is approximately 16 kilometers away from the city proper. In the east, it is bounded by Bagulin, La Union, in the north by San Juan, La Union, in the west by Baraoas, City of San Fernando, La Union, and in the south by Naguilian, La Union. Farm implement making was one of the main sources of income of the people in the said barangay. The area was well-known for its metal farm implements. However, this means of living was not preserved to this day. Nowadays, almost all locals of the place are engaged in farming and animal raising as their primary livelihood. Some are also into charcoal making. There are also government employees serving the town of San Juan and the City of San Fernando. During the pre-World War II, according to the old folks, there was a school built in the mountainous part of the city. It is now called Nagyubuyuban Integrated School. It is one of the farthest schools in City of San Fernando, La Union. The school has a total area of 13,766 sq. m. which was donated by Mr. Melecio Cabanban where the school stands now. The school was first named Nagyubuyuban Community School which in time changed into Nagyubuyuban Elementary School. During the war, the school was closed due to number of enrollees and eventually got back to operate in 1977 offering grades 1-4.

The school is situated where there is a creek in northern and eastern part. For years, the school offered multigrade classes -- one for grades 1 and 2, and another for grades 3 and 4. Eventually, complete elementary education was offered and the school was named Nagyubuyuban Community School, then became Nagyubuyuban Elementary School. The school continuously serve the people under the leadership of Mr. Mark Anthony B. Inocencio, Head Teacher I. As per record, it was previously headed by Mrs. Maria C. Feliciano (TIC), Mrs. Francisca C. Oliver (head teacher), Mr. Maximo R. Fidelis (head teacher), Mr. Ernesto Viloria (head teacher), Mr. Rogelio Madrid (head teacher), Mr. Rubilyn Balagtas (TIC), Mr. Josefino Munar (head teacher), Mr. Bernardo Rombawa (head teacher), Mrs. Guadalupe Madrid (TIC), Mrs. Lani N. Sobrepena (TIC), Mr. Edmon Ariel Zapico (head teacher), Dr. Gloria C. Abad (Principal I), Dr. Mark Anthony B. Inocencio (head teacher), and the current school head, Mr. Mark Francis E. Munar.

In 1986, the school officially extended its service by having its kindergarten program. It is being operated up until today. In achieving the goal of the Department of Education which is to make education accessible to all, a remarkable milestone happened in 2017. Through the persistence and love for the learners of the former Schools Division Superintendent Fatima R. Boado, CESO VI, the school extended its service by offering secondary education which was accompanied by the alteration of the school name to Nagyubuyuban Integrated School. The school offered grades 7 -10 in junior high school all in the same year. In 2019, the school had its first senior high school class, grade 11. The school was permitted to offer Senior High School program – General Academic Strand. At present, the school administration consists of a school head, an administrative assistant, and 16 teachers – seven elementary teachers and nine secondary teachers, all are nationally-funded.
In the first year of secondary program in the school, the learners were transferees from Sto. Rosario National High School, San Juan, La Union and Dagup Integrated School, Dagup, Bagulin, La Union.
Stakeholders continuously support the programs and activities of the school. The school was awarded Best Brigada Implementer Division level in 2017 and ranked 5 in the regional level in the same year.
The school nurtures heroes now and tomorrow as it teaches the learners values, attitudes and skills in all subject areas. Graduates of this school look back and bring honor.

The school has gained honor to have an ambassador of Kalikasan in the World in the person of Mr. James Daryll C. Rey.

In its effort to serve, the people, teachers, administrators of Nagyubuyuban Integrated School, like “yubuyob” that heat the iron in making farm implements, create and inspire learners to reach their dreams.
